On this tour you’ll get to know the first steps of the two largest exclusively Portuguese rivers, the Mondego and the Zêzere. You’re in the centre of the Serra da Estrela Natural Park, so there will be many different points of interest as well as breathtaking views!

You’ll start very close to the source of the River Zêzere, at Covão d’Ametade, an idyllic spot at the foot of the imposing Cântaros Magro, Raso and Gordo. Afterwards, you’ll ride at the surroundings of the Zêzere Glacier Valley, a natural monument that leaves no-one indifferent.

The views of the central massif of Serra da Estrela and the Glacier Valley will certainly surprise you. A short detour takes you to the Hell Well waterfall through the leafy Carvalhais forest, before descending to Manteigas where you’ll leave the Zêzere Valley behind.

On the way to the High Mondego, you’ll pass through the lush São Lourenço beech forest and the Corredor de Mouros ridge, where you’ll have superb views of the entire Serra da Estrela. You’ll then reach Covão da Ponte where you’ll find the River Mondego. From here you’ll follow the valley of Portugal’s largest river all the way to its source, landscapes that are very different from those you’ve travelled through before but just as breathtaking.

Before the end, you’ll visit the Penhas Douradas area and the Rossim Valley before the beautiful descent to Manteigas through the Carvalheira forest.
