Manteigas, Estrela Heart what to expect on this ebike tour
A scenic circular eBike tour starting and ending in Manteigas, the true heart of Serra da Estrela. The experience begins at Parque da Várzea, where the Zêzere River sets the tone for a memorable ride through the mountains.
Leaving Manteigas behind, we head towards the village of Sameiro, riding into a lesser-known but equally beautiful valley, where the peaceful rhythm of the Serra unfolds with every pedal stroke.
For those choosing the beginner-friendly MTB option, the ridge of Corredor de Mouros is a real highlight. Júlia, Estrela eBike guide, calls this her favourite place to ride — and it’s easy to see why, with open landscapes, gentle trails and a true sense of freedom.
Along the route, you may encounter a local shepherd, a reminder that this is a living mountain. Cultivated fields, the soft sound of cowbells and ancient stone shelters tell the story of the Serra and its shepherds, authentic and timeless.
To complete the experience, the route continues towards Penhas Douradas and the Vale do Rossim, an area known for its striking mountain scenery and rich history. You’ll ride through some of the most beautiful forests in Serra da Estrela and stop at viewpoints overlooking villages, valleys and the impressive central massif, as well as sites of great geological importance.

- 28 km off road (mountain roads).
- 11 km paved roads with few traffic (secondary roads).
- Technical difficulty: Easy.

You should bring comfortable cycling clothes, water and snacks for reinforcement.
Minimum height for electric bike hire is 1.50 metres.
